Three Munster sides now know who they will face in the second round of the Irish National Cup, having gotten through the opening phase last weekend.
Cork Harlequins just lost out by 6 runs to new boys Knockharley, but home victories for Limerick and County Kerry against Civil Service and Ballaghaderreen respectively booked their spot in the next round of the competition.
That pair made the quarter-finals of the competition last season with a fantastic run, both extremely unlucky to lose out to Woodvale for Limerick in controversial circumstances, while Newbuildings overpowered the Kingdom side at the Oyster Oval.
Another chance beckons for these two, as Kerry await the winners of the rearranged first round Bonds Glen v North Kildare clash, while Limerick face a tough trip to face Leinster Division 2 side Terenure, hoping to call on Cork County’s experience from last year in the competition.
A massive day for Midleton, who comfortably dispatched Co Sligo in the last round, and they have been awarded a home tie this time around, Stabane’s Burndennett the visitors. The NW side haven’t fared too well in the league thus far, going 0 from 2 and already finding themselves 15 points behind third-from-bottom, but received a walkover from Armagh in the first round.
All of these matches are to be played on Sunday 11th June, with the replay on the 18th, and we would encourage all Munster supporters to get out and cheer their local sides to victory in this national competition.
