Galway win 2nd Senior Cup in 3 years

County Galway Cricket Club claimed their second Munster Senior Cup in three years following a 52 run victory over Midleton Cricket Club at the Mardyke on Saturday, 23rd July.

As Captain Danish Ali lifted the trophy, the Senior Cup returned to Lydican for the first time since their 2014 victory at the same venue having accounted for last years holders Cork County at the Semi-Final stage and now a plucky Midleton side in the Final.

A hard hitting innings of 91 from Tarik Rehman gave County Galway some much needed impetus in the middle order in addition to a composed display with the bat from skipper Danish Ali with 67  before they were all out for 260. The wily medium pace of Dean Wilson kept the County Galway batsmen in check finishing with figures of 3-47.

In repsonse, the fall of wickets at regular intervals meant that Midleton were always just behind the required rate but some great defiance from youngster Kieran O'Reilly (81) kept the East Cork side in with a shout but they eventually fell short by 52 runs.
